
Kinds of Carpet

• According to materials:
1.
Full -Wool Carpets(Tamaam-Pashm):
The pile of these carpets is woolen and usually the Row number
(Raj) of these carpets is less than 40.If the warps and weft of
these carpets are made of wool as is common in immigrant&
Turkmen tribes they are called full-woolen carpets.
2. Soft wool Carpets (Kork):
The pile of these carpets is made of fine & long fibers of wool
and the warps are made of cotton or silk. The Row number (Raj)
of these carpets ranges from 40 to 50.
3. Silk Carpets (Abrishami):
The pile of these carpets is made of silk. If the warps are made
of silk it can also be called full silk carpet.
4. Silk Based Carpet (Zamineh Abrishami):
The background pile is just made of silk and the pile used in
the figures of the design usually is made of soft wool. Because
the parts of the design that are made of silk lean or lay better
than wool, the woolen parts become raised compared with silky
parts and the whole design can be seen as set in relief pattern.
5. Silky Flower Carpet (Gol Abrishami):
Usually these carpets are woven in Naeen, Ardestan and Isfahan.
These carpets are converse of silk based carpet, it means the
background piles are soft woolen and some of the objects are
woven with silk. It makes the design attractive and more
glamorous.
6. Silky Pollen Carpets (Garde Abrishami):
The pile of lines around the figures and flowers is made of silk
which are called silky pollen (Gardeh Abrishami).In order to
make it most attractive, white silk is used in flowers &
figures.
7. Soof Carpets:
The background of these carpets doesn’t have any knot and only
the weft go beneath and above the warps. Sometime upper wefts
are made of valuable metals, such as golden & silver fibers that
make the objects set in relief and brilliant.

According to size:
1. Carpet (Ghali ):
The size of this carpet is 6 m sq or some more.The dimensions
are 2×3, 3.5×2.5, 5×5.3, 6×4, 7×5, and 10×6 (in meters).
2. Knob Carpet (Kallegi):
Weaving of knob carpet had been merely common in the past years
among villagers & tent-dwellers.The dimension were usually
2×3.5, 1.70×3, 1.5×3(in meters).
3. Side Carpet (Kenareh):
In the past, these carpets had been used for empty places (from
carpet to wall). But now it is used in corridors and step
ways.The width is generally 70 cm to 110 cm and length 2.5m to 8
m.
4. Rug (Ghalicheh):
Rugs are small carpets. Usual dimensions are 1.40× 2.20m.
5. Drapery Carpet (Pardehi):
This kind of Carpet is installed in entrance of room & hall. The
dimensions of drapery carpet are 1.5× 2.5m
6. 61.5 inch carpet (Zar-o-nim):
Dimensions of this kind of carpet are 104×156cm.Zar-o-nim carpet
is usually woven in Farsibaf areas. Zar in Persian means 104cm
and if added to half zar (104+52=156cm) it is called Zar-o-nim,
so the length of these carpets are 156cm.
7. 52 inch carpet (Zar-o-charak):
Dimensions of these kinds of carpets are 130×80cm and are
usually woven in Farsibaf areas.
8. Cushion (Poshti):
This name refers to carpets with a width of 50-80cm and a length
of 80-120cm. The most usual size is 60×90cm or 60×120cm.In
Gorgan & Bojnoord cities, there are kinds of cushion which are
made like a covered pocket with carpet at its front and killim
at its back, called Qarchin.
9. Door-Mat (Padari):
The size of this carpet is as same as ramp that is usually
50×70cm.
